Consumer Insights
A thorough review of owner comments provides the following likes, dislikes and insights:

PROS
- Very good at picking up pet hair
- Easy to empty the dust canister
- Very powerful suction
- Plenty of attachments
- Motorized pet tool works well
- Easy to maneuver
- Not too heavy
- Both an upright and a canister vacuum
- Not too loud
- Lift-away pod is useful - especially for stairs

CONS
- Upright can tip easily
- Hard floor genie is only adequate
- Shorter folks may find the handle too long

Consumers seem somewhat at odds with respect to the vacuum weight. Most feel the unit is lightweight and find it easy to lift and move about. However there are some comments that the vacuum is too heavy and some owners even report sending the machine back and looking for a lighter vacuum. At 15.6 lbs it is our opinion that the NV752 is about average in weight. It is neither particularly heavy nor particularly light. For less heavy machines you may want to look at our list of lightweight vacuums.

The vacuum is known to have exceptional suction and Shark even report that it has stronger suction than the Dyson DC65 upright. As a result many consumers are impressed with the amount of dust and debris that the vacuum pulls up. Although there are some comments indicating that suction controls (even a simple manual suction release) would be helpful as the powerful suction can pull up rug edges. That being said, there is a setting on the vacuum handle – Thick Carpet/Area Rug – which does vent (release) some of the unit’s suction.

Another popular feature is the ability of the NV752 to be an upright, a canister, and to some extent a handheld vacuum (sometimes referred to as the machine’s 3-in-1 capabilities). It is also considered very easy to use and to switch from one configuration to another – switches and clips are intuitive and well placed.

There is considerable consensus on the vacuums abilities when it comes to pet hair. Owners feel the vacuum performs very well when it comes to picking up pet hair on both hard surfaces and carpet. Also, the pet hair attachment works very well – and is reportedly also good at cleaning upholstery.

The majority of consumer ratings and comments are very positive, and comments like ““this is the best vacuum I have ever owned”, “highly recommended”, “one of the best vacuums on the market”, “worth the money”, etc, abound.

There are things that some folks don’t like however. Some owners under 5’ 3” or so (a height quoted by several owners) report that the handle and wand assembly is too tall making it difficult to handle the machine. In addition, some find the nozzle head too narrow (12 inches) resulting in the need for many passes in order to clean large areas. There are also a few comments that the dust canister is a little on the small side and that is has to be emptied frequently. None of these were issues for us although a household member whose height is 5' 2' did report feeling the handle was quite tall.

Details and Specifications
The Shark NV752 continues the Shark tradition of 3-in-1 upright vacuum cleaners. This vacuum is something of a transformer and is an upright, a canister and a handheld. A canister caddy (seen below) allows the machine to be operated as a canister vacuum, and the lift away pod and powered brush roll create a mobile but still powerful handheld unit.

The lift away pod weighs 8 lbs and most owners feel that it is light enough to comfortably carry and move around. We were actually surprised at the heft of the lift away pod but it does contain the main vacuum motor. It didn't take long to get used to. One would probably most often use the pod for stairs but it also provides easy overhead cleaning.
The vacuum is capable on both carpet and hardwood floors. There are three nozzle settings (conveniently located on the vacuum handle) that allow one to easily switch from surface to surface as you clean.

Setting 1) Thick carpet/area rug (also good setting if vacuum suction is making it difficult to push)
Setting 2) Carpet/low-pile - for normal and low pile carpet
Setting 3) Hard floor - for hard floor and when using accessories

There is a graphic of the brush roll underneath two of the settings. When this graphic is lit up it indicates that the brush roll is engaged. You will notice (in the image to the right) that one of the brush roll images is bigger than the other. The larger image indicates more suction. The smaller image indicates less suction and it is the result of opening the suction vents.

The NV752 has cyclonic suction – the typical means by which most bagless vacuums operate today. Shark has a running suction power “debate” with Dyson and they write that tests indicate the NV752 generates more suction than the Dyson DC65. We are fortunate to have both machines and we did a suction test using a vacuum suction testing meter. We found the Shark generated about 24-25 kPA of suction power. While the Dyson generated about 26 kPA of suction power. Although, after repeated testing, the Shark dropped (all at once - not gradually) to about 21 and for an unknown reason we couldn't get it to go back to its previous higher readings. 21 kPa is still plenty of suction power however.

Several attachments/tools are provided with the Shark Rotator NV752:
- Dusting brush
- Dusting genie (basically a combo crevice tool and dusting brush)
- True Pet Mini motorized brush (motorized brush attachment that fits in palm of your hand)
- Pet Upholstery tool (removes pet hair and dust from curtains, delicate fabrics, upholstery)
- Canister caddy (transforms vacuum to canister mode)
- Hard Floor Genie (hard floor tool with washable microfiber pad )

The vacuum also has three filters:

1) Pre-Motor Foam Filter: rinse and let air dry completely every 3 months.
2) Pre-Motor Felt Filter: rinse and let air dry completely every 3 months.
3) Post-Motor HEPA filter: rinse and air-dry once every 12 months or as needed.

Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away User Manual Instructions

Each filter is rinseable and is designed to last the lifetime of the vacuum cleaner. Between rinsings you can tap the filter (above a trash bin) to remove any excess dust or debris if you like – this helps keep the vacuum running optimally.

Not only does the shark have HEPA level filtration – which removes allergens from the air – but it also has a sealed system (referred to as Shark Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology). A sealed system ensures air does not leak out of the vacuum before it is properly filtered. You can read more about the advantages of this system in our article on HEPA filters. Also, the video below shows the results of sealed system technology – bear in mind this was produced by Shark.

The NV752 has LED headlights on the main nozzle which help when vacuuming in dimly lit areas.

In addition, Shark has built a small little spotlight into the handle of the vacuum which is very useful when using attachments directly with the handle (see image below).

The dust canister has a volume of 3.3 dry quarts and is bottom empty. The top of the canister also opens which allows you to get in and remove stubborn debris that doesn’t easily come out the bottom.

The NV752 has a belt that lasts the lifetime of the vacuum and never needs replacing. The machine also has an electric shut off switch for the nozzle motor (which powers the brush roll). This switch shuts the motor off should the brush roll be obstructed and unable to move, thereby saving the motor and the belt.

Additional features include swivel steering (increases nozzle maneuverability), a low profile nozzle (helps when getting under low furniture), a 30-foot power cord (a decent length in our opinion), and a 7-year manufacturer’s warranty (longer than most). We'd also like to highlight that this is also our #2 top Shark vacuum for pet hair.
